Why are you using a computer? Shame on you. Just kidding. Seriously, though..

much of the problems of technological exploitation of the planet, have come from the joining of technology with capitalism, especially late consumer capitalism. Because in our current system people (except the independently wealthy) have to get a paying job to survive, many people work in jobs that are otherwise useless and unnecessary. Take, for example, advertising. Huge amounts of all sorts of resources, (electricity, paper, money, people) are wasted to encourage people to buy more of things they already have too much of.

This is done not because they need these things to live, but because the economy of late consumer capitalism is dependent upon ever increasing returns on investments, which means more products and services being bought, and an ever increasing market for those goods and services. As there are only a finite number of people in that market, this means over-consumption of what is over-produced.

Cybernetic Socialism would provide the means by which everyone's material needs would be met, independent of whether they worked or not, and independent of stock market fluctuations. Thus the incentive to over produce is removed, reducing much of the pollution and destruction of the land.

Consider also that most technology is neither good nor bad, but its worth is merely an issue of its application. In fact, we would not even be aware of many of the ill effects of technology, (such as the green house effect and global warming,) if it were not for other aspects of technology. (The study of the planet Venus using both telescopes and robotic probes led to our discovery of the greenhouse effect.)

Finally, the robots are coming, and in many places are already here. Cybernetic socialism posits a way of dealing with this development humanely.
